This blog is in honor of my dad. He is an amazing hunter and has excellent dogs that are so obedient! He entered this competition in South Dakota and he got 2nd place! This competition is a hunting competition for upland hunting dogs. In these events, birds are placed in a 10 to 15 acre field. The goal is for the dog to hunt, piont, or flush and retrieve to hand. Pointers must establish a solid 3 second point before the hunter can flush and shoot the bird. After the shot, the hunter cannot move and the dog must retrieve to hand. If the hunter takes a step or more after the shot he or she is only granted a partial retrieve. So really it is all about how your dog performs that day. My dad was the oldest man there and was competing with the 2 big guys that have won nationally. With him winning 2nd place means that he actually did beat one of the big guys! Yeah! He has another competition this weekend! Good Luck Dad!
